Crown Ruler do it again
The Melbourne based collective unearth another little known gem, this time it’s proto-boogie pioneer Aaron Bromfield’s impossible to find record, Boomerang.
Crown Ruler have a seriously impressive operation. As well as running a booking agency, they organise events, music workshops, and now - fortunately for those of us not living in their locality - they're spreading their soulful underground sound by means of an extremely dope record label.
The highly rated first instalment - Zulu EP from Focus - received plays on discerning systems accross the planet, and the latest outing is just as essential.
Previously only printed as a single sided test pressing back in 1979, this cut is incredibly infectious. Miami based Broomfield's hooky as fuck vocal rides over an undeniable groove as the bass radiates warmly from the speakers, filling the room with funk. The release comes complete with a demo version, alongside a more polished mix which you can check out below. Very, very highly recommended.
