Mildlife remixed by Artwork for Australian fires charity release
‘Zwango Zop’ gets the Arthur Smith rub down on this not-for-profit vinyl release
We love Mildlife to pieces, so happiness abounds whenever we hear of anything new from them. On this occasion, all-round good guy and ‘certified man of the people’, Arthur ‘Artwork’ Smith takes control of the console to rework one of the standout tracks from the group’s debut album, ‘Phase’.
Not only is the music first class, but, via Prime Direct Distribution, the proceeds from this record will be donated to two charities combatting the bushfire emergency in Australia; Wildlife Victoria and the Australian Red Cross.
The original version of ‘Zwango Zop’ sees Mildlife at their brilliant best: virtuosity, musical fluidity, and improvisation combine to create some kind of psychedelic-tinged, space-age indie-jazz-funk hybrid. For this one-sided vinyl-only release, Artwork takes the best elements of the track, toughens up the rhythm just enough, sprinkles his magic dance-floor dust, and stretches the groove into an essential 10-minute hypno-trance.
Aside from the music, the cause is a noble one. All parties involved in this project — from mastering, manufacturing, affiliated record stores and PR, to the artists themselves — has contributed their efforts free of charge. The beneficiaries of the money raised, Wildlife Victoria and the Australian Red Cross, continue to assist the emergency response — rebuilding homes and habitats, supporting rescued animals and the shelters that house them, alongside aiding the evacuation centres and recovery hubs created in many communities who have been devastatingly affected by the bushfires.
The release date is March 20. You can help support by buying the record via these worldwide stores:
