Phil Weeks hits Singapore's Kilo Lounge
Friday 19th July is the night the French house hero brings his heavy rhythms to the SG hotspot.
Self-described ‘house purist’ Phil Weeks has been making noise for the best part of 2 decades. On his own Robsoul imprint, along with countless other label excursions, he’s been delivering his characteristically jacking and genuine house sound in the form of his faithfully constructed productions.
True the the ‘golden age’ house era, Phil favours the use of retro hardware to forge his music. Akai samplers, Roland drum machines and vintage keys - along with his undoubted ear for the groove - give his tracks an authentic quality that sets them apart from the ocean of software produced music that floods record stores today. As a DJ his sets are raw, driving and dynamic - encompassing the deepest to the toughest 4/4 beats - amounting to a healthy blend of ‘Old school Chicago with nu-School French flare’. He’s played at the best parties and venues internationally, and continues to hold down residencies in his native Paris.
His output is so prolific it’s not easy to pick a favourite, but we’re going with ‘Live At The Palladium’. Rolling bass, locked percussive beats and soulful vocal sample, the track really comes to life on a club system. Basically this event is one for the bona fide house heads, and is pretty much guaranteed to go off. Event info here
