When it comes to the freakier end of the Balearic spectrum, there are few labels operating today who are as consistently bold, refreshing, or forward-thinking as Italian-based Hell Yeah! Recordings. With a back catalogue boasting artists including Pins Thomas, Dimitri From Paris, Alexander Robotnik, Mushrooms Project and Balearic Gabba Sound System, everything they publish is worthy of attention. Their fine form has continued well into the annus horribilis that is 2020, going at least some way to soothing weary minds by releasing music from the likes of Max Essa and Kayroy, as well the recent 'Buena Onda' compilation which included the incredible 'Japon' from Lucas Croon.

Here they summon an exceptional cast of like-minded luminaries to present a four-track remix collection from Quiroga's 2019 album, 'Passages'. First up, fellow Neapolitan and Cosmic Tiger favourite, Whodamanny comes with his reinterpretation of 'Martinica Feelings'. This one made it onto the Buena Onda compilation, but it's so good that we're happy to give it some attention here. Flexing in distinctive Periodica style – and in a way that few others can – he delivers a funk-flecked classic that brims with sunshine energy, with slick guitar licks, emotive horns and deeply infectious bassline accompanying the catchy vocal over an engaging arrangement.

Jazz N Palms' take on 'Africa Addio' is no less impressive. Afro-Cuban inspired piano phrases charge over the urgent, percussion-heavy tempo, virtuoso leads share the limelight as the walking bass increases the energy levels to some kind of maniacal fervour. This is a fully authentic Latin-jazz-funk hybrid from the Pikes Ibiza resident and a seriously impressive piece of music.

Next up, A Vision Of Panorama applies his unique Balearic touch to 'The Zoist' for a typically warming and harmonically pleasing excursion into blissed-out sunset territory. The heartfelt synth lead plays over soothing chords, crisp drums and delicate instrumentation for yet another timeless meditative exploration from the talented St Petersburg-based producer.

Finally, My Friend Dario slows things down even further on his dream-like cosmic voyage version of 'Chiaia Sunset'. Atmospheric layers intertwine as the gently euphoric guitar lead transports the listener to distant galaxies, syncopated hits and percussive textures combine to en-trance and enhance the ethereal mood as the groove plays out its intoxicating journey.

This is beautiful work from all involved, and another in a long line of special releases from the Hell Yeah! gang.

Quiroga 'Re:Passages' is out October 23 on Hell Yeah! You can listen and buy it here
