Micky Milan classics masterfully re-purposed on FAR

Three cuts from the legendary Parisian boogie pioneer are presented including affectionate re-edits, courtesy of the Faze Action Records crew.

Faze Action have made bringing sunshine to our lives via our stereo systems something of a habit, and right here they do it again in the form of an excellent example of disco-funk resurrection.

Micky Milan is known for being one of the first DJs in early to mid ‘70s France to push U.S. disco sounds, selling out clubs in Paris with his extended, all-night sets. He quickly built a reputation as a party-starter and his nights went on to host superstar touring artists - including Prince and Madonna - eager to check out his sublime selections.

He released a handful of delightful Franco-Brazilian, disco-boogie fused studio productions in the ‘80s, and for this release, FAR have hand-picked a selection of favourites to present in a neat package.

First up is 1982 Salsoul summertime jam ‘Quando Tu Dances’ - here given a club-friendly re-rub by Pacha Ibiza resident Willie Graff. Piano riffs roll over a solid beat and rich bass as a seductive spoken word vocal teases, building to an insanely hooky and feel-good chorus. Willie spaces out the arrangement and uses dub delays to fine effect. This is a floor-filler without any doubt, and has already proved to be a favourite of DJ Harvey at his Pikes residency.

Next up, Faze Action themselves offer up a contemporary but faithful version of ‘C'est Une Bombe’. Also released originally in 1982, the up-tempo French boogie vibe is hugely infectious. Guitar licks float over a weighted bass, synth stabs enliven, the exquisite lead vox soars, and again the sultry spoken words add heat. The expert re-edit brings the track right up-to-date in the most refined fashion, and we’re excited to hear it out in the field.

To complete the set, we have the original version of 1985 outing ‘Les Vacances On S'eclete, On S'evade’. Just a little more Balearic in nature, but still complete with the sing-along chorus and sexy spoken vocals that help characterise the entire release. Delicate piano riffs glide masterfully as the track leads into a blissfully star-gazing breakdown - where the hypnotic picked guitar briefly takes centre stage, before gradually being joined by the remaining instrumentation and building to a rush-inducing climax. This is another one to add to the golden sunset box.

This is a killer EP, all three tracks are eminently playable and we highly recommend grabbing a copy. It’s due out on November 11th, and you can buy your copy here by clicking on the sleeve art.
