Stunning new EP from Mount Liberation Unlimited

The Stokholmian mountain dwellers launch their new label in fine style

Tom and Janzon of Mount Liberation Unlimited have delivered unto the world a steady stream of excellent music over the last six years or so, on labels including Studio Barnhus, Permanent Vacation, and Beats In Space.

Now they’ve decided it’s time to unleash a self-proclaimed ‘vanity label’ in the form of MLU Private Press — an imprint conceived of solely to provide an outlet for their own musical musings. Here they present three psychedelic-tinged tracks of the highest quality, all of which are deserving of attention.

We’ve picked our two favourites to play you samples of here.

First up, the gently atmospheric yet suitably weighted ‘Astro Travelling part 2’. Warm pads caress the broken rhythm, which rolls onward and breaks down as a subtly evolving acid line opens up to full, euphoric effect, before the drums burst back into focus. Apparently, this track was lost and forgotten, having been composed almost a decade previously. We’re very glad it resurfaced.

Next, we have the pounding beat of ‘Madame Of The Magic Mushroom’. Live drums charge over a growling acid bass, pads envelop us, and space-age synth motifs sparkle in the distance. This cut has an urgent feel. We can’t wait to play it out in the field and see what it does to the dancers.

The duo have managed to strike an immaculate balance between delicate production and raw, primal appeal. It’s only February, of course, but this is our favourite of the year so far.

MLU Private Press #1 is out on a small run of vinyl 14th of February 2020 as well as digitally across all platforms.
